The process by which a learner receives a formal document from an authorised institution stating that a qualification has been achieved. Certification follows validation.

In case of some qualifications certification consists of several activities which boil down to the preparation and issuance of a formal document (diploma, certificate).

In case of other qualifications certification may become a more complicated process constituted by an extended verification of documentation sometimes with the participation of external institutions.
